evan's review of cky's "an answer can be found"

Cky has displayed sophistication and maturity with this album. The former quality can be appreciated in the ease and confidence with which the band handles the material combining an awareness of international methods with local and personal experience. The latter allows them not to overcrowd the imagery and its message, instead relying on a fairly minimalist and clear language. However, although the work is very sonically aesthetic and well thought out, it leaves the listener somewhat cold, receiving it intellectually or theoretically, rather than through emotive sensations which would have been more appropriate considering the character of the reality here. I've already wasted valuable listening talking to you jerk-offs. GO BUY THE ALBUM!!!!!!!!!

Why even bother?

Something I don't understand. On blogs, forums, chat-rooms, etc. Why are 90% of the people assholes. Everybody thinks they know better than everybody else. And what really gets me is why??? You're never going to meet these people (trust me if I met some, I'd beat the shit out of them, but since I know I never will, fuck it who cares??? well maybe Jay & Silent Bob, but that's another story altogether). Any thoughts?

Sweet Leapin' Jesus!!!!!!!!!!

I just got my copy of An Answer Can Be Found (cKy's new CD, see previous post) and Holy Shit dooooooood!!!!!! This is a must buy for anybody. I've already wasted valuable listening time talking to you jerk-offs. GO BUY THE ALBUM!!!!!!!!!

evan's review of "land of the dead"

George Romero has displayed sophistication and maturity with this film. The former quality can be appreciated in the ease and confidence with which the director handles the material combining an awareness of international methods with local and personal experience. The latter allows him not to overcrowd the imagery and its message, instead relying on a fairly minimalist and clear language. However, although the work is very aesthetic and well thought out, it leaves the spectator somewhat cold, receiving it intellectually or theoretically, rather than through emotive sensations which would have been more appropriate considering the character of the reality here.

"People who have recently died are returning to life."

"Land Of The Dead" is George Romero's epic finale, as of now. The apocalyptic vision of this fourth film out shines the previous two entries ("Dawn" and "Day") and ties with the original ("Night Of The Living Dead").

The main idea of the film- that nothing stays the same forever, given enough time- is shown in a very original way. The dead are evolving, they're learning. After a decade ( I'm guessing at the time frame) of fighting off hordes of the living dead, the dead are fighting back.

After witnessing the anihilation of fellow ghouls, a large "stench" known only by the tag on his coverall's as Big Daddy, becomes angry and unites the dead against the living. He begins to teach them how to use weapons such as an axe, a butcher knife, and even assault rifles from the soldiers they've killed.

Now, if you say to hell with the story there are plenty of special effects (practical and digital). A ghoul completely engulfed in flame, severed heads being crushed under boot, a dead guy who's head is connected only by his spinal cord and he uses it in the same manner as a scorpion uses it's tail, by flipping the head up from his back onto his shoulders and attacking people. Plus the perpetual favorite, intestine gnawing.

Bottom line see the movie that was 37 years in the making.
5/5

Poland, good sausage, nice weather, stupid people...

Greetings all, for those who didn't know (probably the whole club), I went to Poland for a week. I'm back now, and have never been happier. The people there are so stupid. All the jokes are true my friends. And by the way, Mike I'm sorry the 17th wasn't altogether interesting for you. Maybe next year. Not a whole lot on the homefront right now. The In-Laws are coming out here for the 4th of July (Tod, it you wanna drop that stuff with them instead of paying for postage I'm sure they won't mind). Also Tod if you check CCS.com's clearence section, they have that Flip Messenger Bag you liked for only $25.99. Act fast my friend, act fast. That's really all I got, I'm just pumped for the next episode. Late...

Spoiler Alert!

Do not read if you would like to be surprised by the events that will occur on the next episode!!!!

This episode is about how the first week of July I'm going to be moving to Sharonville. Curl has a 3 bedroom townhouse there with Thompson, and another roommate who is disappearing. So wanting to move out, and wanting to help them be able to continue to afford that place, I'm going to be going there. That's really all that happens in that episode, as Mike continues to work in the factory of death, insanely slowly continues his education, and fights the forces of evil. Rest assured like any good episode, it ends with everyone standing around, laughing at something that probably isn't all that funny.

An Answer Can Be Found

For those living under a rock, lemme tell you bout cKy. cKy is one of the best punk bands out today. Forget the fact that they hang out with Bam for a second and listen to the music. If Tod and I started a band, I think this what the music would sound like. A touch of gothic, heavy metal, punk, with a little splash of silliness makes them such a great band. Hard guitar riffs, fascinating lyrics (not to mention some easy bass lines), what more could you ask for?? Anyways, their new album "An Answer Can be Found" will be out June 28th and is now availiable for pre-order. Plus you can check out the single "Familiar Realm" on iTunes for $0.99 (or mIRC, iMesh, etc. for free). If you buy any album this summer, make sure this is one of them.

Twilight Princess

For those who haven't heard, there is a new Zelda coming out for Gamecube called Twilight Princess. If you don't own a GC, this is reason enough right here to get one. They are finally giving the game a realistic animation approach and the graphics look great. From what little is known now, Link starts off as a farmer in a small village and gets sucked into this huge adventure. There's something weird though, when he enters the "Twilight Realm" he turns into a wolf (very odd). Kinda reminds me of turning into a rabbit in The Dark World of A Link To The Past. If you haven't heard about it I suggest you head over to IGN.com and check out some screens & vids from it. I believe it was voted one of E3's highest anticipated games of 2005.

evan's genius moments from sith

inspired by dave's post, i'd like to mention a few of the moments in revenge of the sith that i thought were particularly good choices.

1. the jedi purge. to me, when i realized how genius the plan was to turn the republic into the empire, i really was impressed. the whole setup- jedis are generals of clone trooper armies on far away planets is great. you wonder early on, like why would these droids attack the wookie planet for no reason? or whatever planet. then we find out its mainly to space out all the jedi and surround them with troops under control of palpy, and they turn with his "order 66". and why are they using these crap droids? they arent even meant to fight well! they're pawns to create a war, and instantly palpy can turn off all the droids and end the war once hes in power. i think all that stuff was answered geniusly.

2. sad music for darth. i thought that was cool because i assumed the scene where they first showed darth vader was gonna have like "badass" music playing, but the use of the same death/funeral music was a great way of doing it. i loved it.

3. qui-gon becomes one of the most important jedi ever. with his discovery of "immortality" jedis like yoda and obiwan can now talk to new generations of jedi, so all is not lost. i thought this was great.

4. no jarjar, little c3po! and r2 was actually funny. enough said.

Revenge Of The Sith

Where do I begin? I figure that after my second time of seeing it, I can offer a better opinion of it. I was so pumped for this movie I was looking up all the info I could on the net, plus listening to the soundtrack over and over, then reading the novelization, then reading the graphic novel. then succeeding in watching all 6 in one day. That's right I did it. But enough of that, now to my thoughts.

First, Mace went out like a bitch, bullshit. Mace is the second baddest Jedi in the galaxy, and he screamed like a little girl when he got his hand cut off (see below for a list of those who didn't cry when they got a hand cut off). This dude was my favorite Jedi and he went down crying, I'm hurt.

Second, in EpII I though Anakin was a whiny ass little bitch. I mean, c'mon "this is DARTH VADER". Stop crying please, stop whining please. However in EpIII I really started to feel for his character. When you see how much everybody (and I mean everybody) uses him to try to gain the advantage, I can sympathize with him. Everyone gave him the wrong signals, and he went with the only choice he thought he had simply because nobody could give him a better one.

Third, the duel. The verbal exchange between Obi-Wan & Anakin before, during and after the duel made me cry. I admit it, I cried. It was a heartfelt exchange both verbally and physically. The duel really spoke about their relationship and how well they knew each other.

Fourth, no Jar-Jar.

I give this movie 4 1/2 Burnt Wookiee Hairs.
