Why even bother?

Something I don't understand. On blogs, forums, chat-rooms, etc. Why are 90% of the people assholes. Everybody thinks they know better than everybody else. And what really gets me is why??? You're never going to meet these people (trust me if I met some, I'd beat the shit out of them, but since I know I never will, fuck it who cares??? well maybe Jay & Silent Bob, but that's another story altogether). Any thoughts?
